Team mascots perform for fans during breaks in game play.

Team mascots help to entertain the crowd during sporting events. Being a team mascot involves dressing up in a costume and parading around the playing field. Teams often choose an animal as their official mascot. Popular mascots for collegiate and professional sports teams include bears, hornets, panthers and jaguars. Performing as a team mascot requires practice and dedication. According to Varsity, the mascots in professional sports are expected to perform numeous choreographed skits and dances. Make sure to gain permission before walking out onto a playing field.

Instructions

    • 1

Assemble five amateur or professional dancers prior to your team mascot performance. Choreograph a synchronized dance routine that involves you as well as the five dancers. Instruct the dancers to dress in normal street clothes on the day of the performance. Place your dance partners throughout the audience of your team-mascot performance.

    • 2

Make sure to cover your face with your mascot costume to ensure your identify remains a mystery. Play a popular song over the loudspeakers of your venue's sound system. Run out in front of the crowd and begin to perform your choreographed dance. Select your five dancers from the audience one by one and place them into the center of the playing field, rink or court.

    • 3

Prior to the performance, inform your dancers to act embarrassed, as this will create the illusion that you picked out random audience members. Continue to perform the choreographed dance as your dancers act surprised and confused. Instruct your dancers to begin the routine at a specified moment in the song.

Follow your partners in the choreographed dance to wow the crowd. Stand near the sidelines closest to your team after you have completed your halftime performance. Hold up signs that display team chants or songs. Lead your team's fans in cheers of encouragement.
