How to Access Wi-Fi Hot Spots

Some Wi-Fi hot spots allow you to access the Net if you're outside.

A Wi-Fi hot spot is a site that offers wireless Internet access. Usually, these wireless networks are unsecured, meaning you can connect to them without a password or log-in name.



Unsecured wireless connections pose risks because other users on the network can intercept information you transmit. However, using a Wi-Fi hot spot is convenient. You can access the Internet in many public places such as libraries and cafes. For safety, use a computer firewall and keep your virus software updated.

Instructions

1. Get as close to the Wi-Fi hot spot as possible.

2. Turn on your computer's wireless network.

3. Open your computer's "Start" menu and select "Connect to."

4. Select the unsecured Wi-Fi network connection from the menu. Click "Connect."
