How to Dye Bleached-Blonde Hair to Brown

Bleaching your hair blonde can be fun, but taking it back to a brown can be tricky.

Whether your bleached-blonde hair color didn't turn out the way you had hoped or your tired of the blonde and want to go back to your natural brown hair color, it can be tough to make the transition back. It is possible to dye bleached-blonde hair back to brown, but it is something that has to be done in a couple of steps.

Things You'll Need

• Latex gloves
• Light brown or red hair coloring
• Dark brown hair coloring

Instructions

1. Apply a lighter brown or red color to your hair. Bleaching your hair blonde in the first place removed all the natural pigment, so you can't simply jump back to brown. Ash browns, in particular, tend to have green and blue tones with very little red, so applying a brown color at this point could turn your hair green.

2. Leave this first mixture in for 20 to 30 minutes. This will allow the hair to start turning a slight ginger or even red color. Leave the mixture in for approximately 30 minutes before shampooing the color out.

3. Mix in a darker brown color next. Don't use too dark of a color, as it will be easier to gradually darken your hair then to try and come back to a lighter shade.

4. Wash and rinse your hair completely until you remove all hair color and the water runs clear. Conditioning your hair at this point, and continuing to do so over the next several shampoos, will help bring your hair back to health and correct any damage caused by the bleaching process.
