How to: Electric Grout Cleaning

Over time, dirt and debris can lodge in tile grout, making it look dark, dirty or greasy and ruining the look of your tile. Expedite the cleaning process by using a handheld electric grout cleaning brush that you can purchase from a hardware or home improvement store. Keep in mind that cleaning chipped or cracked grout with an electric brush can further damage it, so if this is the case with your tile, use manual cleaning methods instead. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings

  • Work in a well-ventilated room.

  • Do not add bleach to the grout cleaning solution, as bleach and ammonia create potentially toxic fumes.

  • Do not use this ammonia solution if you've recently cleaned the tile with bleach or other products that contain chlorine, as the two will mix to create toxic fumes.
