Becoming a water aerobics instructor requires more than a simple job application. You need a water aerobics instructor certificate, as you need to help and assist people with their low-impact water aerobics routines, and support people going through rehabilitation. You also need an academic background in health or kinetics, so you can help elderly people avoid joint injuries. Before you start searching for available water aerobics instructor jobs, complete the required certification for water aerobics instructors.

Contact an institution that can certify you as a water aerobics instructor. Institutions include IFA Aqua Fitness, Aquacert or WaterArt.

Read through the requirements for getting certified. This will often require a written test along with a practical test. The practical test is either a physical demonstration or a video recording of your workout routine.

Study your old course materials, if you have a degree in a health related field. If you have no prior health experience, Aquacert offers programs and courses in water choreography, aquatic personal training, seniors fitness, aquatic arthritis, deep water training and aquatic intervals and circuits training. WaterArt offers courses in parents and tots training, shape up in water and common movement disorder training. These courses will specify your learning, which you can use in your physical assessment. As for practical health ans safety knowledge, you will need to know CPR and offer support to the elderly or children to avoid injuries, for example.

Complete the written test required by the institution you've chosen for the certification. The test will show your knowledge on the subjects of human anatomy, injuries and water safety. You can use the IFA Aqua Fitness ABC guideline as your practice test. When the test is done, send it to the institution.

Complete the practical part of the certification requirements. Depending on the institution, you either need to attend a physical demonstration test on a specified day or send in a video recording of a potential work-out water aerobics routine. In the end, the institution should have an idea of what you can do.

Gather your overall scores from the certification institution. You will receive your certification, if you have passed your test and demonstrated water aerobics instructor abilities in your practical evaluation.

Add the certification to your water aerobics resume. Use the resume to start applying for jobs in your area, including local pools, recreational centers and rehabilitation centers.
