Compare Satellite Dish TV Companies

Comparing satellite dish television providers requires an understanding of your viewing habits.

When it comes to choosing a satellite television company, there are only two major providers to choose from, Dish Network and DirecTV. While there are many similarities in the programming they offer, there are some major differences too. These differences only matter, when selecting a provider, if they affect you. For example, if you do not watch a lot of sports, the fact that Dish Network does not provide some of the major American football channels will not matter. Knowing your own viewing habits is the best filter for choosing the satellite television provider for you.

• List of channels available on both satellite options
• Pen

Instructions

1. Write down on a piece of paper your favorite television shows or programs. Think of at least 10 to 15 shows or programs. Write down next to the show what network channel it is on. For example, do not write "channel 35"; instead, write "Showtime" or "ESPN2."

2. Look at the list of channels available on both DirecTV and Dish Network. Check next to the major channels you watch on each list to make sure they are available. If the list is missing a channel, write it at the bottom of the company's list.

3. Check the available plans and prices for the satellite dish provider that has most or all of the channels you watch to confirm they are within your price range.

4. Select the provider and plan that best suits your watching habits and price range. Call the 800 number of the company or visit their website to set up service.
