How to Recycle Disposable Diapers

Babies go through as many as 5000 diapers before potty training.

Disposable diapers are a convenience for busy parents who do not have the time to clean and maintain cloth diapers. Unfortunately, they are also mostly made from materials that take a long time to degrade and fill the landfills. According to Canadian Parents, by the time a baby is potty trained, they can go through as many as 5000 disposable diapers. This adds up quickly over the course of a year to result in billions of diapers in landfills. Another option for parents is recycling the diapers instead.

Instructions

1. Use eco-friendly diapers. Eco-friendly disposable diapers are made from materials that are bio-degradable, so they do not have as much plastic. This is not a necessity, but it does make it easier to recycle the diapers because they are made from recyclable and bio-degradable materials.

2. Look up companies in the local area that accept diapers for recycling. Companies like Knowaste LLC and Smallplanet recycle disposable diapers.

3. Call the company and find out the guidelines for recycling disposable diapers. Some companies might pick up the old diapers while others will require the parents to drop off the diapers. Once guidelines are established, start recycling the dirty diapers.
