How to Stake Your Tent Down at the Beach

Properly stake your tent down at the beach.

Camping at the beach provides a smooth and level surface for comfortable tent sleeping. It usually lacks the problematic roots and stones often found in forest camp sites. A beach campsite adds beauty, peace and the opportunity for easy swimming and fishing access. Pitching and securing a tent on the beach can pose a challenge for campers; loose sand often causes tent stakes to pop out of the ground.

Instructions

    • 1

Erect your tent and attach guy-lines to the stake-rings located near the base of the tent.

    • 2

Gather spare sticks or find a few large pieces of driftwood. If you use sticks, pack them together into bundles. Use the wood as an anchor to secure your tent.

    • 3

Wrap the loose end of each guy-line around the bundles of sticks or driftwood. Tightly secure the line.

    • 4

Dig holes in the sand with a trowel. Dig holes around all sides of the tent, straight out from the connected guy-line attachments. Create holes wide enough for placement of the wood.

    • 5

Place the sticks or driftwood into the holes. Make sure the guy-lines remain tight without any slack. The weight from the buried wood pulls the guy-lines tight and secures your tent to the beach.
