Switch to a more current navigational DVD to update in-dash GPS systems.

GPS updates for in-dash navigational systems are usually available once a year through certain dealerships. Roads aren't updated that often, making navigational DVDs available any sooner than once a year difficult. Once you have gotten a new navigational DVD from your car's dealership you can easily update the system with a new DVD in several minutes, giving you the latest road maps available for any GPS in-dash navigational system.

Insert the key into the ignition and turn on the car. Remove the screws or pins, or squeeze the prongs on the box that contains the DVD player. The DVD player is under the front driver's seat in many car models, but it could also be in the console or in the trunk. Enter your vehicle's make and model in the references provided for detailed information on where your vehicle's disc player is located. Tips & Warnings

  • Some new in-dash GPS units installed in the console or dash are combined with the vehicle's audio system, and allow you to insert the new navigational DVD into the CD/DVD slot without having to remove a cover to gain access.
