How to Use a Rib Rack

Save

Ribs can take up a lot of space on a grill, which is why some grilling companies have come out with rib racks. A rib rack is a metal frame that goes directly on the grill with a number of slots where the ribs can be put in so they sit on their sides, reducing the amount of space they take up. Cooking ribs on a home grill is somewhat challenging, but doable if you allow a few hours for cooking.

  • Put the grill on a low heat setting if you are using a gas grill. If you are using a charcoal grill, make sure the charcoal is not burning too hot by placing the lid on and reducing the air intake.

  • Spray the rack with a non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking and assist with cleanup.

  • Place the ribs upright in the rib rack slots, wide side facing up. Place the rack on the grill, arranging it so the ribs are not directly over the mounds of embers.

  • Cook the ribs at low heat with the lid on for about three or four hours. The ribs are done if they bend easily.

  • Put sauce on the ribs a half hour before they finish cooking if you want saucy ribs.
