How to Use Adding Machines to Add Percents

How to Use Adding Machines to Add Percents thumbnail
Adding machines are similar to calculators.

Adding machines are devices used by many companies for basic financial calculations, which can then be recorded onto a paper tape. Adding machines work somewhat like calculators, although there are a few different buttons and functions between the two types of devices. At times, however, you may have to add percentages rather than standard numbers when using an adding machine. You can do this easily once you understand the progression of key strokes that you need to make.

Instructions

    • 1

Key in the number next to the percent sign. For instance, if you have 20%, press "2," "0."

    • 2

Press the percent key, which has this symbol: %.

    • 3

Press "+," followed by the next number and the "%" symbol.

    • 4

Continue adding as many percentages as necessary.

    • 5

Press the asterick key, which has the symbol "*" for the total.
