How to Troubleshoot the Xerox 5614

The Xerox 5614 copier can hold up to 375 sheets of paper in each of its two input trays and produce up to 14 black and white copies per minute. The copier uses toner, or powdered ink, to create copies, applying heat and pressure through rollers inside the machine before ejecting the copies into the output tray. Often the copier's display screen will give you alerts concerning certain problems, helping you to know how to proceed with your troubleshooting.

Instructions

  1. Black Spots on Copies

    • 1

Dampen a microfiber cloth lightly with water. Lift the copier's top cover to expose the scanning glass.

    • 2

Clean the scanning glass with the cloth, then clean the inside of the cover. Dry the glass and inside of the cover with a dry microfiber cloth before closing the cover.

    • 3

Examine the original document you used for the copies. If you find the same black spots on the original, use corrective fluid or tape to cover the spots before making more copies.

    • 4

Fold down the Xerox 5614's front cover. Press the green plastic lever to the right side of the copier as you lift up on the top portion of the copier.

    • 5

Press the green tab near the toner cartridge to remove it from its slot in the copier. Remove all of the wrappings from the new toner cartridge, then press it into place in the copier so the green tab near the cartridge snaps.

    • 6

Close the printer so the green release lever snaps and fold up the front cover.

    Paper Path Jams

    • 7

Fold down the copier's front cover and press the green lever to the right. Lift up on the top portion of the copier to reveal the inside of the device and allow the copier to cool off for 15 minutes.

    • 8

Pull out any stuck pieces of paper you see inside the device. Remove any stuck paper from the fuser by lifting up on the green plastic lever as you pull the paper out. Be careful to not touch the fuser, since it could be extremely hot.

    • 9

Push the top of the copier closed until the green release lever snaps. Fold the front cover back into place and continue using the copier.

    • 10

Remove all of the paper from the input tray and flip it over. Reinstall the paper stack in the tray, making sure the width guide is adjusted to the size paper you have put in the tray.

    • 11

Replace the paper in the input tray with paper from a previously unopened package if you continue to have paper path jams.
