How to Get Rid of a Lower Belly Pooch

Save

When losing fat, the lower stomach area is unfortunately the last place to burn its fat storage. The only way to get rid of a lower belly bulge is by incorporating a healthy diet with a regular exercise routine. Spot reduction in one area of the body is not possible. The best way to get rid of fat in the lower stomach region is to reduce fat all over the body.

Step 1

Measure your body fat percentage. You can have this done at your doctor's office or at a local gym.

Step 2

Write down how many inches your waist is. As your stomach reduces its fat, your waist will become smaller. By writing down your starting measurements, you can keep track of your progress.

Step 3

Join a local gym. If the gym is close to your home, you will have fewer excuses for not going. Some gyms offer trial memberships, so you can see if it's the right gym for you. Another option is to use workout equipment at home.

Step 4

Eat five to six small, healthy meals per day to keep metabolism up and cravings at bay. Each meal should have some carbohydrates, fat and protein. Smart choices will help you. Instead of full-fat products, go for the low-fat and no-fat options. Fiber-rich products like oatmeal and whole grains will make you feel full longer.

Incorporate at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise, four days of the week. This can be anything from a walk or jog outside to exercising on the elliptical machine, treadmill, stair-climber or stationary bike.

Step 7

Add approximately 30 minutes of weight training, four days a week. There is no need to focus on just the lower stomach area. You can exercise all the body's muscles. Reducing fat all over the body is the only way you'll lose that belly flab. Abdominal exercises such as crunches are good to tighten that core, but in order to see the actual results, and even the beginnings of a six pack, you will have to burn off that fat layer.

Step 8

Suck in your tummy as if trying on a tight pair of jeans and hold it tight. This exercise targets that lower pooch and can be done while watching television or sitting behind the computer.
