Loading Ink Into a Fountain Pen

The fountain pen has been around since the early 1900s and is still used today. The ink of a fountain pen is stored in the pen's internal reservoir, which feeds the nib (writing end) of the pen. The internal reservoir allows the ink to flow through the nib and on to the paper. Occasionally, you may have to refill your fountain pen reservoir. You can refill your fountain pen with any color ink, and you can find the ink bottles at an office supply store.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cap from the fountain pen. Unscrew the top from the ink bottle. Place the ink bottle on a sturdy flat surface.

    • 2

Submerge half of the writing end (nib) into the ink. Be sure not to submerge the entire nib in the ink or you may clog the nib.

    • 3

Pull the pen's lever toward you. Allow the ink to fill the reservoir and release the lever. Remove the nib from the ink.

    • 4

Clean the nib on a clean cloth to remove excess ink. Begin writing, to ensure the pen is working correctly.
