Creating forms in Styrofoam is simple to do with a knife and sand paper.

Styrofoam is not a recyclable product; however, it is usable for crafts. Styrofoam is easy to cut and simple and safe to work with. Creating crafts with foam is something that parents can easily do with their children and forming Styrofoam to the desired shape is not hard. The texture of the foam makes it fairly easy to cut into desired forms and sanding the Styrofoam will create a uniform and professional look.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the amount of Styrofoam needed for the project. If the project is bigger than the size of the Styrofoam block, it is possible to merge two pieces of foam together.

    • 2

Glue together two pieces of Styrofoam, using toothpicks for reinforcement to create a stronger bond between the two separate pieces of foam.

    • 3

Trace the desired pattern in the Styrofoam and cut it out using a serrated knife.

    • 4

Sand the edges of the project to create a more uniform and professional appearance.

Tips & Warnings

  • Allow the glue to dry overnight.

  • Do not use hot glue to glue the pieces of Styrofoam together, because it will melt the Styrofoam.
