Roomba Vacuum Operating Instructions

The Roomba vacuum is designed to be easy to use and care for. It will clean an average room in just 25 minutes and automatically adjusts itself to clean wood, carpet, tile, vinyl, and linoleum. Or, you can set the Roomba to spot clean smaller areas. Roomba models 550 and higher can be scheduled to clean at a certain time every day of the week. If you have lost your Roomba instructions or purchased a preowned Roomba without an owner's manual, you can still learn to use your vacuum quickly and easily.

Basic Roomba Operation

  • Charge the Roomba overnight before you use it for the first time. Turn the Roomba over to expose its underside. Pull off the plastic battery pull tab sticking out of the battery's housing (it will only be there if this is your first time using the Roomba). Plug the Roomba's home base into a wall outlet; the home base's light will turn on when it is receiving power. Then set the Roomba on top of the base. If your Roomba does not have a home base, plug the Roomba's power supply cord directly into the wall and then into the Roomba's power supply outlet located on the right side of the Roomba's casing. The Roomba's "Clean" button light will flash amber when it is charging. The light will be solid green when the Roomba is fully charged.

  • Press the Roomba's "Clean" button, located in the center of the machine, to turn the Roomba on. The Roomba will beep when it is successfully turned on.

  • Remove the power cord from the Roomba's casing and press and release the "Clean" button a second time to start a room-cleaning cycle. If the Roomba is charged on its home base, it will leave the base on its own when it begins cleaning. Roomba models 570 through 599 will clean the entire room and then return to the home base. Roomba models 600 and higher will continue cleaning the room until the battery runs out unless stopped.

  • Press and release the "Clean" button to pause the Roomba in the middle of a cleaning cycle. To resume cleaning, press and release the "Clean" button again.

  • Press and hold the Roomba's "Clean" button to turn the Roomba off. When the Roomba is successfully turned off, the "Clean" light will turn off.

  • While the Roomba's power is on, press and release the "Spot" button to activate a spot clean. The Roomba will clean the 3-foot circular area surrounding it and then return to the start position.
