The International Organization for Standardization in 2008 adopted ISO 9001, replacing the earlier ISO 9002 version. The ISO 9001 2008 version establishes a quality management system (QMS) standard for businesses and organizations of any size engaged in making any product or delivering any service. Businesses and organization can achieve international recognition and respect by creating and implementing a system that meets those standards. A firm devoted to recruiting and placing personnel with competence in ISO 9001 can be successful if thoroughly planned.

Research the possible legal entities for your company and create the best one for your circumstances. If you plan to work alone or with people you know well, consider a sole proprietorship or a partnership. Apply for corporate status or a limited liability company (LLC) with your state to get the advantages of limitations on liability. Corporate and LLC status usually requires more reporting and costs more to maintain than working alone or with partners. Incorporating usually offers more credibility with the companies you expect to work with.

Write a business plan after thoroughly exploring the job market for potential employees with ISO 9001 experience and the companies who want to develop a quality management system that meets the ISO standards. A recruitment firm must consider the qualified employees and the hiring companies as clients. Your business plan must explain how you can find both types of clients, recruit them and prepare the potential employee to interview successfully. The business plan should include start-up costs and financial projections for one to three or five years.

Train the personnel you hire about the intricacies of quality management systems so that they can demonstrate the benefits and possible obstacles to ISO 9001 compliance to companies and organizations with a wide variety of products and services. Ensure that they know all the processes and products involved in QMS so they can match the right employee to each job opening.

Train your staff to recruit primarily by telephone unless you hire personnel already skilled in recruiting employers and employees nationwide. Search trade associations’ literature, business blogs and ISO sources to find companies that require QMS assistance. Call companies with implemented quality management systems to locate experienced ISO 9001 employees willing to make a change of employers. Everyone you talk with has the potential to make useful referrals.

Find office space that serves the number of personnel you expect to hire. Create computer and telephone systems robust enough to handle the heavy use you can make of them. Advertise in general business and trade magazines. Write articles on ISO 9001/QMS issues and methods to establish your company's expertise. Keep up with trends in a number of important industry and service areas likely to provide you clients.
