How to Hook Up X10 Cameras & Motion Sensors

X10 cameras are wireless.

The X10 camera is an industry standard for home automation. Installing X10 cameras with motion sensors is an inexpensive and easy way to put together a home-security system. The X10 cameras are wireless, and you can receive the signals on a regular TV and record to a VCR or DVR. These cameras use the motion sensor to know when to record, so that you don't have hours of tapes with nothing important on them.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Drill
• Wall anchors
• VCR/ DVR

Instructions

1. Connect the power to the camera. The camera will plug into a wall outlet, and may need additional batteries.

2. Mount the camera where you want it, but close to the power. The cameras will come with mounting brackets that screw into a wall. Use a drill to make a small hole in the wall. Put in wall anchors, and then screw the mounting bracket into place.

3. Place the camera fixture onto the mounting bracket. The motion sensor will be part of the camera fixture.

4. Connect the receiver to your VCR or DVR. Cables such as RCA cables connect from the camera's receiver into the video input on the recording device. You will need to change the channel or input to see and/or record the video, according to your device's input settings.
