Cremation is a common form of burial that family members choose for loved ones and pets. After cremation, the ashes of a loved one are stored in an urn. There are many types of urns that can be chosen to hold ashes. It is very important that the urns be opened and sealed with care to preserve the ashes inside. The most common type of urn is the box urn.

Instructions

    • 1

      Spread the towel onto a flat surface. Place the urn upside on the towel.

      Use the screwdriver to unscrew the screws in the bottom of the urn. Place the screws on the towel. Remove the lid from the urn.

      Add the burial ashes to the urn. Pour the ashes into the urn slowly to prevent any spills.

    • 4

      Place the urn's lid back onto the urn. Use the screwdriver to screw the screws into the lid and urn. Tug gently on the corners of the lid to verify that the lid is secure.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are other types of urns also on the market. Some lids can be threaded directly into the urn and do not require a screwdriver. Other types of urns are sealed with epoxy, which can be opened with acetone and sealed again with more epoxy.
