How to Convert a Blackberry to a Straight Talk Phone

The BlackBerry smart phone gives users e-mail and Internet access as well as text message and multi-media message service. The only way to convert your BlackBerry device to a regular phone that only allows you to make calls is to alter your cell phone plan.

  • Call your cell phone provider's customer service number, or visit a local retail store.

  • Give the representative your name and phone number so he can pull up your account.

  • Remove any data packages from your cell phone plan. The data package lets you access the Internet, download files and access your e-mail. Without a data package, your phone will not be able to do any of those things.

  • Remove any text messaging packages from your plan. Some carriers include texting in certain monthly plans, so you might have to switch to a simple, low-minute plan to remove texting.

  • Wipe your BlackBerry device. This will delete your e-mail settings as well as any applications you downloaded to the phone. Wiping the device deletes all your personal information, pictures and contacts. To wipe the phone, select "Options," "Security," and "Wipe Handheld."

  • Select "Continue" when you get the warning message, then type in "blackberry" as the password. Click "Next." Restart the phone.
