Turn the fan on in your Gateway laptop.

Anytime you want to add a new fan to your system it is a good idea to turn it on and monitor the speed through BIOS. Each Gateway laptop is pre-loaded with a BIOS framework, which acts as an operating system of sorts for your hardware. Most users never adjust the settings in BIOS. Within BIOS, you can turn fans on or off and adjust their operating speed.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart or reboot your Gateway laptop.

    • 2

Initiate BIOS by pressing the key prompted at restart. Typically, this is the "F2" key. When your system first starts to reboot, a message will identify which key needs to be pressed to start up the system settings or BIOS.

    • 3

Navigate to the "Power" settings in the hardware toolbar to view the fans in your system.

    • 4

Turn on the desired fan by scrolling to it and using the arrow key to change the status to "On" or "Enabled", depending on your computer's specific BIOS.
