How to Tether a Smart Phone

Your smart phone may be used as a modem for your computer.

Some smart phones have the ability to be tethered with your computer to use as a modem. The ability to tether your phone varies depending on the device. In order to use your smart phone as a modem through tethering you may be required to have an additional Internet data plan through your mobile service provider. Once connected to your phone your computer will be able to connect to the web using a dial up connection.

Things You'll Need

• USB cable provided with your device

Instructions

1. Install the driver software for your phone on your computer. You can find the necessary software on your mobile provider's website. Follow each step of the setup wizard to ensure proper installation.

2. Connect your USB cable to your device and to an open USB slot on your computer.

3. Select the "Internet sharing" option from the phone's screen. You will now be able to access the web.
