How to Open a Maxtor One Touch Mini

A Maxtor One Touch Mini is a type of portable hard drive designed for use with your Windows computer. Use your Maxtor One Touch Mini to either transfer files from one computer to another or to supplement your computer's existing storage. Before you can use your external hard drive, first connect it to your computer, then open it in Windows Explorer.

Instructions

1. Locate your Maxtor One Touch Mini's attached power cord. Plug this power cord into a wall outlet or power strip near your computer.

2. Locate the USB cable that came with your Maxtor One Touch Mini. Plug one end of this cable into the USB input on the hard drive and the other into a USB input on your computer. This cable enables the data transfer from the device to your machine and vice versa.

3. Press your Maxtor One Touch Mini's "Power" button. This will turn on your hard drive. In order for you to open your Maxtor One Touch Mini, your computer has to recognize it. Even if connected, your computer won't recognize the drive if it isn't on.

4. Click "Start" and select the icon in this menu that reads "Computer."

5. Double-click the icon for your Maxtor One Touch Mini. Your external hard drive is now open on screen.
