How to Connect a Vonage Phone Line to a DirecTV HD DVR

The DirectTV HD DVR set-top box allows you to connect either a phone line or network to access pay-per-view or On-Demand features. You can access more features via a network connection because it provides a higher bandwidth for data. The Vonage adapter can accommodate either connection. Vonage is a Voiceover Internet Provider, which allows you to make phone calls over the Internet instead of traditional phone lines. The Vonage phone line is enabled using the Vonage adapter.

Things You'll Need

• Ethernet cable
• Vonage adapter
• Broadband modem
• Coaxial cable

Instructions

1. Connect either a coaxial cable (for cable modem) or phone line (for DSL) from the wall jack to the back of the broadband modem.

2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the Internet port on the back of your broadband modem to the Internet port on the Vonage adapter.

3. Connect either a phone line or an Ethernet cable from the back of the DirecTV HD DVR box to the respective port on the Vonage adapter. If you are using a router, connect the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the Vonage adapter to the WAN or Internet port on the router, then connect a second cable from the DVR box to one of the LAN ports on the router.

4. Plug in and turn on the broadband modem and the Vonage adapter. Also, turn on the DirecTV box.
