Nothing looks quite as wintry and delicate against the needles of a Christmas tree as a crocheted snowflake ornament. Glue or starch stiffens these miniature doilies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Crochet the snowflake ornament following a pattern from a craft book or magazine.
Step2
Prepare a solution of laundry starch and water according to the manufacturer's directions or mix half fabric glue and half water. If desired, add glitter or sugar for sparkle.
Step3
Saturate the clean snowflake in the solution.
Step4
Use rustproof pins to pin the snowflake into shape on a towel or waxed paper.
Step5
Let the snowflake dry completely before touching or moving it.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are making several snowflakes, stiffen the whole batch at one time.

on 11/22/2005 Never use sugar when starching your crochet, the sugar attracts pests.

on 11/22/2005 Cover a piece of cardboard with the waxed paper. This holds the pins in place better. Regular white household glue mixed with a little water works just as well as fabric glue. Drying them in the sunlight gives them a starchier feel and they dry faster.
