Things You'll Need

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Turn off the engine. Pull the hood release latch, located next to the driver's-side seat, inside the vehicle.

  • Use the wrench to loosen the nuts that holding the cables to the battery's terminals. Loosen the black (negative) one first. Then loosen the right (positive) one.

  • Carefully lift the battery out of its place. Set it down slowly on the ground. Place both hands on the battery strap if there is one for additional support.

Tips & Warnings

  • Loosen the terminal nuts by hand once they have become loosened by the wrench so that you do not lose them by mistake.
