How to Stop the Automatic Updates Restart Dialog

Automatic updates are essentially Windows Updates that update your computer with new security features and applications. Microsoft highly recommends these updates as they keep your computer secure and up-to-date. However, you may notice that these automatic updates prompt you to restart your computer every time it finishes the update installation. This may seem annoying, especially if you are in the middle of your work and do not intend to close down all active windows and programs to restart your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Start menu and select "Run..." If you use Windows 7, type "run" without the quotes and press "Enter" key.

    • 2

Type "gpedit.msc" without the quotes and press "Enter" key. This will launch your Group Policy Editor.

    • 4

Double click "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations" on the right pane.

    • 5
