How to Get Digital Channels on HDTV

To take full advantage of the better picture quality that comes with an HDTV, you might want to invest in digital cable, which allows for the HDTV to show off the quality in which the digital channels are broadcast. Some digital-cable providers also offer channels in high-definition, which is the highest picture quality available for television channels.

1. Contact a local cable provider that offers digital cable. Comcast, Verizon and RCN are just a few companies that offer digital-cable packages.

2. Set up an account and schedule an installation date. You will need to have a cable technician come to your home to install the digital-cable box, which will allow you to view the digital-cable channels through your HDTV.

3. Check the channel guide that is given to you after the technician installs the digital-cable box. You can still receive basic-cable stations with digital cable, so you will need to consult the channel guide to see on which channel numbers the digital stations are broadcast.
