How to Fix the Garmin GPS 60C Freeze Problem

A Garmin GPSMAP 60C is a handheld GPS, or global positioning system. Handheld GPS units are typically used by hikers, hunters and others while in the outdoors, off of paved paths. The unit provides you with route information as well as your current latitude and longitude position. If the unit freezes up and is not unfrozen by removing the battery and reinserting it, or if it freezes up constantly, a master reset can be performed. A master reset restores the unit to it's original factory settings and is the first step in troubleshooting. Unfortunately, when a master reset is performed, all of your saved and stored information will be deleted and can not be restored.

  • Hold down the "Power" button until the Garmin GPS 60C turns off.

  • Push and hold down the "Page," "Enter" and "Power" buttons simultaneously.

  • Release the buttons when the display screen says "Do you really want to erase all user data?"

  • Push the "Down" button to highlight "Yes." Press "Enter" to select this option.

  • Leave the GPS unit with a clear view of the sky for 30 minutes while the system resets and acquires the satellite almanac.
