How to Clean the RENA Smart Filter
The RENA SmartFilter is used for cleaning home fish tanks, and it can be purchased online and at pet stores that sell aquarium supplies. It is a pressurized filtration system the passes dirty aquarium water through a disposable filter. The filter cartridge contains Bio Chem Zorb resin, which enables the system to use mechanical, biological and chemical methods of filtration. Unplug the RENA SmartFilter system.

Remove the top cover of the filter by twisting the knobs located on the top.

Remove the filter cartridge from the filter housing. Dispose of the cartridge.

Pour a small amount of water from the fish tank into the filter housing, using a small cup.

Scrub the internal walls of the filter housing with a small filter brush. Filter brushes can be purchased online or at any pet store that sells fish supplies.

Inset a new RENA SmartFilter cartridge into the cartridge holder of the filter housing.

Plug in the filter system.

Tips & Warnings
The color of a filter cartridge will determine if it needs to be replaced. Old filters tend to turn dingy green or brown after filtering a lot of algae and dirt from the tank water.
Use an old toothbrush if you don't have a filter brush.
