How to Clean a Virus From Memory

The Internet is full of useful and entertaining websites, but there are some sites and software downloads that can post a threat to your system. If you access a compromised website or download malicious software, your computer could be infected with a virus. Luckily, several free resources are available for those who need to locate and clean viruses off of their system or for those who want to protect their computers against possible infections.

Instructions

Install Multi Virus Cleaner (see Resources). This free application can help you clean up a virus-infected computer that doesn't have a lot of processing power--perfect for older systems. Run the software and choose "Scan" to perform a systemwide virus check.

Download avast! Virus Cleaner (see Resources). The avast! software, a free download, can scan your system for viruses and clean them up, if necessary. In addition, avast! runs in the background to provide constant protection against viruses and can alert you if a website you visit is dangerous.

Use HouseCall, a free online virus-scanner from TrendMicro. HouseCall runs right in your browser (so you won't need to download any software) and can scan your computer for viruses, Trojans and other possible threats. After the scan, HouseCall can clean the virus from your system.
