How to Make Bottle Cap Barrettes
A variety of personal accessories, such as belts, jewelry and barrettes, can be created with used bottle caps. To make bottle cap barrettes, you'll need enough bottle caps to cover the length of a barrette form along with a few craft supplies. Face the bottle caps top-out if the advertising on the lid appeals to you. You can also fill the inside of the bottle caps with decorative trinkets such as small shells, photos and pressed flowers to make barrettes with a distinctive flair.

Face-up Bottle Cap Barrettes
-
1
Place a used, bent bottle cap face down on a flat surface. Wear protective gloves while holding the rim securely with your hands. Strike the inside of the bottle cap with a ball-peen hammer to flatten it.
-
2
Fill the inside of the bottle cap with silicone sealant, up to the rim. The goal is to have a flush backside so you can securely attach the cap to the barrette. Allow the silicone to dry completely according to the manufacturer's directions.

-
3
Brace the barrette form between the edges of two hardback books so that the top section is level and accessible. Run a bead of viscous craft glue along the top side of a barrette form. Barrette forms are available at discount, craft and beauty supply stores.
-
4
Press a row of bottle caps, silicone side down, into the craft glue. Allow the glue to dry completely according to the manufacturer's directions.
Bottle Cap Barrettes with Resin Embeds
-
5
Straighten a used bottle cap with a ball-peen hammer. Select small trinkets, photos, pressed flowers or other embellishments that fit inside the concave section of the bottle cap.
-
6
Coat pressed flowers, photos or other paper embeds with a thin layer of decoupage glue. The glue will prevent the ink from bleeding into the resin. Coat both sides; allow the glue to dry.
-
7
Mix two-part epoxy resin in a squirt bottle. Follow the manufacturer's directions for mixing the resin. Have the bottle caps and embeds ready; resin sets up quickly.
-
8
Squirt a layer of resin on the inside bottom of the bottle cap. Press the embed into the resin. Cover the embed and fill the bottle cap to the rim with more resin. Repeat this step for each bottle cap you plan to add to the barrette. Let the resin dry completely.
-
9
Brace a barrette form between two books. Run a bead of viscous craft glue on top and press the backs of each bottle cap into the glue. Let the glue dry.
