How to Uninstall the RealPlayer Message Center


RealPlayer is free audio and video software that plays MP3s, MPEG-4s, Windows Media and QuickTime files. In 2008, RealPlayer was labeled as "badware" by for its deceptive practices involving spyware and adware. A big problem with RealPlayer is the pop-up advertisements displayed using RealPlayer Message Center. If you want to use RealPlayer but want to lose the pop-ups, deactivate RealPlayer Message Center from popping up.

  • Open the "Start" menu. Select "RealPlayer" from the list of programs.

  • Click "Tools" on the top menu. Select "Preferences" from the list.

  • Click "Automatic Services" in the left navigation pane. Click the "Configure Message Center" button.

  • Remove the checkmark from "Check for new messages."

  • Remove the checkmark from "Show Message Center icon in the System Tray." Click "OK."
