How Make Bottlecap Earrings
Metal bottle caps aren't as common as they once were, but can still be found on beverages sold in glass bottles. You might also find some attractive vintage metal bottle caps in antique stores or online. Turn your metal bottle cap collection into funky retro bottle cap earrings with a few inexpensive supplies from the craft store in just a few minutes. Make a couple extra pairs to give as gifts.
Things You'll Need
- Two metal bottle caps
- Hammer
- Small nail
- Two head pins
- Seed beads in colors coordinating with bottle caps
- Round nose pliers
- Needle nose pliers
- 2 ear wires (hook shaped earrings)
Instructions
-
-
1
Punch a small hole in the edge of the bottle caps so that when you stand the bottle caps up on their edges vertically, the holes are in the tops. Use a small nail and a hammer to punch the hole.
-
2
Thread a head pin through the hole in each bottle cap from the inside to the outside.
-
-
3
Thread two or three seed beads onto each head pin. Bend the head pin at a 90-degree angle on top of the last bead using your needle nose pliers.
-
4
Trim the tail of the head pins down to roughly a 1/4 in length. Use the round nose pliers to curl the 1/4-inch tails into loops.
-
5
Attach the ear wires to each bottle cap earring with the head pin loop and close the loops to complete the earrings.

Tips & Warnings
Decorative bottle caps can sometimes be found in the paper crafting section of craft stores, though they don't have the same vintage feel as true bottle caps.
Hammer the nail through the bottle cap edge on a work bench or other surface you don't mind getting scratched or place a cutting board or mat beneath the bottle cap prior to punching the hole.
