How to Improve DSL Speeds
DSL stands for digital subscriber line. DSL technology allows phone companies to provide broadband Internet access over existing phone lines far beyond the limitations of dial-up Internet access. While you can change your computing actions to get the most out of your DSL there are also some things you can do to improve your speed that will not affect how you compute or surf the Internet.

1
Use a new phone cable to connect from your phone jack to your DSL modem. You may also consider having the traditional phone lines inside your house replaced by Cat 5 network cables.
-
2
Upgrade your modem to a higher-quality DSL modem. The modem provided by the phone company is often cheap, and a compatible DSL modem purchased from an electronics store might give you added speed. If you are connecting a router, consider upgrading this as well.

3
Install a DSL splitter. You will need to install this near your phone wiring box or NID. Connect your voice lines to the cables for voice, and run a separate line for your DSL modem. Alternatively, if you cannot do this, you may at least want to unplug phones from jacks you don't need a phone on.

Download and install DSL tweaks for Windows. These programs make changes to your registry that allow your computer to receive data faster. Just how well these types of programs work is up for debate, however.
