How to Remove Windows Genuine Error

WGA is designed to prevent users from purchasing counterfeit software.

Windows Genuine Advantage, or WGA, is an antipiracy tool created by Microsoft and installed on the Windows operating system. If the tool determines that the version of Windows you are using is a counterfeit copy, it launches a Windows Genuine error explaining that you are using an illegal copy of Windows and providing instructions on how to purchase a legitimate copy. This is a well-intentioned tool; however, some users have reported false positives. Thus, you may need to remove WGA to put an end to the Windows Genuine error messages.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," type "Run" into the "Search" box and press "Enter." The Run tool opens.

2. Type "cmd" into the Search box, and click "OK." The Command Prompt opens.

3. Type the following commands. Press "Enter" after each command and click "Yes" when asked to confirm a command.

   cd C:WindowsSystem32

   icacls wgatray.exe /d everyone

   icacls wgalogon.dll /d everyone

   icacls legitcheckcontrol.dll /d everyone

4. Restart your computer.
