How to Slow a Cassette Player
A cassette player uses a motor to pull the cassette tape from one side of the cassette to the other. Slowing down the speed of the cassette player allows for the playback audio to also slow --- making it easier to listen to audio cassettes where there is a lot of surface noise and hiss. To slow the cassette player, adjust a screw that controls the speed at which the motor pulls the tape through the cassette. The procedure is straightforward but does require a partial disassembly of the cassette player.
