How to Organize Your Christian Home

Cleaning helps keep a home organized.

A clean and uncluttered home minimizes distractions, so that a family can have a serene space to pray and reflect. Organize your home to help clear the way to living Christian values. Take a three-pronged approach. Lead the way with prayer, clear away clutter, and enlist family help. Then commit to maintenance. Look around at the fruits of your organizational efforts and say to yourself, "It is good."

• Storage container
• Cleaning supplies
• Small table
• Tablecloth
• Bible
• Candle
• Prayer book
• Picture of Jesus

Instructions

1. Gather family members for a few minutes of focused prayer before bringing order to your home. Pray for the energy to bring your home into manageable order. Ask God to give you happy hearts filled with gratitude for a home in which love can live and grow.

2. Assign each person a room to organize. Establish what can stay and what can go. For example, recycle old magazines that may have collected in the den. Keep mementos of family outings, but place them in a storage container where those bits of your family history won't get lost.

3. Operate according to the rule, "Cleanliness is next to godliness." Give the house a thorough cleaning after family members organize each room.

4. 

   Place a picture of Jesus on an altar table.

   Establish a sacred space where clutter once reigned. Lay a white tablecloth over a table in a quiet corner. Place a Bible, a prayer book and picture of Jesus or another religious symbol on the table. Set a candle on the table to light during prayer and meditation.

5. Take a tour of your newly organized surroundings. Say a brief prayer of thanksgiving as you look at the good work done by each family member. Commit to maintaining your beautiful home as an expression of family support and love.
