How to Test FTA Files
Free-to-air, or FTA, files are used to keep FTA satellite receivers up to date. Several different receiver makes and models exist, and each requires its own specific FTA file. To ensure you have the correct FTA files for your satellite equipment, you need to look over some of the information and even attempt to upload the data to the receiver. Until you perform these tasks, you are not going to know for sure if the FTA files are correct or not.

1
Open a Web browser on your computer. Navigate to the satellite receiver's manufacturing website (it does not matter what satellite dish you are using). Select the "Downloads" link, then find your current model of receiver.
-
2
Look for the FTA file download with the most recent date listed next to it. This is how you know the file is correct.

3
Download the files, unzip the information (right-click the file and choose "Send to," "Unzip") and then upload the files directly to a USB flash drive.
-
4
Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your FTA receiver. If the FTA files are correct, the data automatically upload onto the satellite hardware. If the files are not correct, the television is going to display a prompt stating the receiver is unable to read the files on the flash drive.
