      Measure out 2 1/2 cups of white vinegar. Pour the vinegar into a large bowl or other container.

      Place the vinegar in a refrigerator to chill. Check the temperature of the white vinegar periodically. Remove the vinegar from the fridge when it reaches 46 F.

      Pour the vinegar into the Krups electric kettle. Allow the vinegar to sit unheated for one hour, then pour the vinegar out.

      Rinse the inside of the kettle six times with cold water.
