How to Install a Battery on the Dodge Viper GTS

You will find the battery on your Dodge Viper GTS remotely mounted in the trunk. The battery in the GTS is maintenance-free, so you should need to access it only if you need to replace it. Buy a replacement battery from an auto parts retailer or Dodge dealership and install it at home to save the labor charge of a mechanic. Recycle the old battery at an auto parts store to ensure proper disposal.

Things You'll Need

• Phillips screwdriver
• Wrench set

Instructions

1. Turn off the ignition and any accessories. Open the trunk.

2. Remove the screws securing the black plastic cover over the battery compartment inside the trunk on the driver's side with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the cover off and set it aside.

3. Remove the negative cable with a wrench. Repeat this process for the positive cable. Loosen the retaining bolt on the retaining strap over the battery with a wrench. Remove the strap and set it aside.

4. Lift the battery out of the tray. Clean out any debris in the battery tray and then insert the new battery. Replace the retaining strap and tighten the bolt with a wrench. Attach the positive battery cable. Tighten it with a wrench. Attach and tighten the negative battery cable.

5. Replace the battery compartment cover and tighten the screws to secure the cover over the battery.
