      Connect your computer's network cable directly to the DSL modem. Open a Web browser and enter the IP address for the DSL modem.

      Enter the user name and password for the DSL modem. Check all the settings and make sure the DSL connection is set "Always On" and to reconnect every so many seconds. You might need to call your DSL provider for the exact specifications.

      Plug the DSL connection into a router if you are having problems with the DSL disconnection. Plug in the DSL modem to the router's Internet port and your computer's network cable into another open port. Enter the router's IP address in a Web browser and enter the appropriate user name and password. Setup your connection type, which is usually ppoe for DSL. Enter your DSL user name and password and set it to always stay connected. This user name and password is not the same as that for the DSL modem.

  • If you have problems accessing the router's Web page, temporarily disconnect the DSL modem.
