How to Lock an MS Access 2007 Database for Exclusive Rights


You can add data and create several types of reports with the Microsoft Office Access 2007 database management application. If you share a computer with more than one user, you may need to protect your database. Lock the database by creating a password that must be entered to access it. Creating a password helps to encrypt your database and give you exclusive access to the stored content.

  • Click the "Start" button from the desktop, then "All Programs." Select the "Microsoft Access 2007" option.

  • Click the "Microsoft Office" button once the Access 2007 application has launched on your screen. Click the "Open" button.

  • Select the Access 2007 database file that you want to lock and click the arrow next to the "Open" button. Click the "Open Exclusive" option.

  • Click the "Database Tools" tab, then click the "Encrypt with Password" option from the "Database Tools" group.

  • Enter a password into the "Password" box, then enter it again in to the "Verify" box. Click the "OK" button. Your database will be locked.
