How do I Program a 2006 Toyota Avalon to Recognize a Smart Key?

The Avalon is among the many Toyota vehicles that offers smart-key capabilities. With this technology you can program electronic keys to your engine, and once programmed only one of these keys will start your car. Also known as chip keys or transponder keys, the devices must be programmed from your ignition. You can complete this process with no professional experience or equipment.

Instructions

1. Close all of the doors and windows on the car and lock and unlock the driver's side door with your key.

2. Insert your key in the ignition and wait 15 seconds for the security light to turn on.

3. Wait another 15 seconds for the security light to turn off and your key will be programmed to the ignition.
