How to Adjust Salomon Skis

How to Adjust Salomon Skis thumbnail
Head out for tracked runs on your adjusted skis.

Salomon produces a variety of nordic style skis. These include backcountry touring, skate and traditional styles of ski. Adjusting these skis for maximum performance means sharpening the edges on any metal-edged ski (backcountry touring skis) and cleaning out the bindings to optimize performance. Many of these adjustments are possible while in the field and skiing, but some must be done in a workshop. Salomon nordic skis are adjusted and worked on the same as any cross country ski.

Things You'll Need

  • Ski work bench and vise
  • Rag and horse hair brush
  • Ski edge sharpening tool

Instructions

    • 1

Place your metal edged Salomon skis on the ski bench, base side up, and secure them with the vise.

    • 2

Brush off the metal edges on the sides of the ski with the horse hair brush, then wipe away any debris.

    • 3

Set the sharpening tool onto the metal edge so the U-shaped depression surrounds the metal. Slide the tool, in one direction only, across the metal edge. Pick it up, place it back in the original starting position and repeat. Continue this for 10 to 15 slides to get the edge sharpened and adjusted for prime skiing. Do this with both skis.

    • 4

Stop during your time skiing and push out any accumulated snow or ice build-up on the binding runners. This in-the-field adjustment should be done to keep your boot entering properly into the raised runner.

    • 5

Grab the ski and inspect the NNN metal bar on the front of the binding. Push out any ice or snow from the metal bar. This adjustment keeps the boot securely attached to the binding by removing any sediment on the attachment points.
