How to Use a RAZR As a Modem

RAZR is a series of phones brought out by Motorola in 2003. It has a clamshell like case and very readable screen and numbers. As people connect more with a wireless world, the need to be able to log on to a WiFi network wherever you go is more common. The ability to use cell phones as modems to connect with any available wireless networks increases the functionality of wireless devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your RAZR and start up your laptop and wait for them both to load completely.

    • 2

Open the "Settings" menu on your RAZR and choose the "Connection" option. Select "Bluetooth Link" to open the Bluetooth connection capabilities.

    • 3

Choose "Setup" and press "Find Me" to make your phone visible to nearby enabled devices.

    • 4

Click on the "Start" menu of your computer and open the "Control Panel." Choose "Printers and Other Hardware" to access the Bluetooth Devices menu.

    • 5

Select "Add" in the Bluetooth Devices menu and follow the computer prompts to connect with the discoverable RAZR.

    • 6

Click on the "Start" menu again and choose "Connect To." Select your phone from the drop down menu of available network choices and click "Connect."

    • 7

Enter your password, user name and relevant Internet details from your service provider.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you pair your computer and RAZR you can skip the pairing step and just go right to the connection step.

  • Do not leave your RAZR on for extended amounts of time without plugging it into a charger, as you will lose connection if the battery dies.
