Changing your Mac's name in OS X Tiger only takes a few moments.

When sharing files, hosting a website or working with a wireless computer-to-computer network using your Mac OS X Tiger computer, you need a name for your Mac in order for connection points and other users to identify your computer. If you dislike the current name of your Mac, you can change it to suit your own personal preferences. Changing your Mac's name isn't necessary, but is another way to define the computer as your own.

      Click the "Apple" icon on the top bar of the desktop.

      Select "System Preferences."

    • 3

      Select "Sharing."

    • 4

      Click the area next to "Computer Name" and press the "Delete" key repeatedly to erase the old name

      Type a new name for your computer.

    • 6

      Click the "Edit" button and enter a new name in the text box to change your Mac's Local Hostname.
