If your iPod Classic starts to have issues, try restoring or resetting it.

With a color LCD screen and 40 GB of space for storing thousands of songs, movies, podcasts and games, the iPod Classic is an entertaining device. After awhile, you may begin to experience a few common bugs or issues with your iPod, such as the screen freezing or the click wheel not responding. When this happens, Apple recommends that you try a few troubleshooting steps that have proven effective in repairing most of these problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Charge your iPod Classic by connecting it to your computer with the USB cord.

    • 2

Flip the hold switch at the top back and forth.

    • 3

Reset your iPod Classic by holding down the menu and center buttons on the click wheel until the Apple logo shows up on the screen.

    • 4

Reboot your computer with the iPod Classic still connected.

    • 5

Check for an iTunes software update. On a Mac, click the Apple icon, then "Software Updates." On a PC, click "Tools," then "Windows Updates." Accept the iTunes update if one is available.

    • 6

Open iTunes. Click on your iPod Classic under "Devices." Click "Check for Update" and update your iPod Classic software if there is an update available. Test your iPod to see if this resolved the issue.

    • 7

Restore your iPod Classic. Click the "Settings" tab in iTunes and select "Restore." Your music, videos and games will be deleted, but stored in your iTunes library. Test your iPod to see if this resolved the issue. If not, contact Apple Support for further assistance.
