How to Put a Bed Liner on a Subwoofer Box
Something tough and scratch-and-tear-proof ought to cover your automotive subwoofer box. Carpet will wear and tear. Paint scratches. There is one foolproof option, though, and not only is it strong, but it strengthens the joints on the box and can be had in several colors: spray-on truck bed liner. It form-fits and seals the MDF or wood of the box. You can either get the local professional to apply it for you or buy some that you can apply with a roller.
Things You'll Need
- Brush-on bed liner kit (if applying it yourself)
- Screwdriver
- Duct tape
- Newspaper

1
Remove the loudspeakers components from the subwoofer box and store screws in a sandwich bag. If the woofer is mounted with bolts and T-nuts, apply a thin film of Vaseline to bolt heads and reinsert them after removing the woofer. Having them in place will prevent spray from clogging the threads on the T-nuts.

2
Cover the speaker wire connections and connection plate at the back of the box with duct tape.

3
Insulate the inside speaker connections with duct tape and pull out any soft speaker batting. Store the batting in a plastic bag for reassembly. Cover any foam egg crate panel inside the speaker with newspaper and duct tape.

4
Spray the box outside and mounting rim, or apply DIY bed-liner-in-a-can with rollers included in the kit. If the woofer was mounted with bolts, remove them now, wipe the liner off the heads and store them for reassembly. Let the cabinet finish dry and harden thoroughly.

5
Remove newspaper and duct tape, refill the subwoofer box with batting, pull duct tape off the terminal and re-mount the woofer.

Tips & Warnings
Application to unfinished MDF or wood does not require pre-sanding and roughing as painted or rough metal on a truck bed does. Other than that, follow the same instructions as for application to a truck bed.
Although many forums mention using bed liner on sub boxes, the best information for general application can still be found on truck and Jeep hobbyist sites.
