How to Glue a Foam Block

Foam blocks can be glued together to form larger objects.

Gluing foam can become one of the biggest challenge for any hobbyist. This is due to the extremely absorbent characteristics of foam. Most glue types do not adhere to foam easily because it tends to create large craters in the foam. By selecting the best product and techniques, you will be gluing foam to any object in no time at all.

Things You'll Need

• 80-grit sandpaper
• Polyurethane construction adhesive
• 2-inch sponge brush
• Foam

Instructions

1. Rough up the surface of the object you will adhere the foam block to. If you are attaching the foam to wood or plastic, creating a rough surface will allow glue to penetrate well into the surface to create a stronger bond.

2. Apply polyurethane construction adhesive to the surface of the foam block, as well as the roughed up surface of the item the foam will be adhered to, using the 2-inch sponge brush.

3. Allow glue to set for five minutes and firmly press the foam onto the adjoining object. Hold objects together for 30-seconds to one minute. Allow the foam block to bind with the object for 12-24 hours.
